All beginner-level hikes feature an experienced guide who helps with gear choices and preparation. They are limited to fewer participants so that we can gain confidence in the outdoors as we forge friendships via our shared triumphs. Beth leads women-only hikes.

Beth, W.O.Man Guide

Hi, I’m Beth. I’m over 60, and I have hiked every trail on Isle Royale several times, alone and with my hiking partner Duane.

Last summer, I soloed the length of the Minong Ridge Trail in three days to experience the peace and the challenge of arguably the most difficult trail on the island.

As a woman I understand why we sometimes want to strike out alone or to hike with other women, so I am reserving for women only some of the 4-day and 3-night options we have posted for 2023.

At Wise Old Man of Isle Royale Guide Services, we have women-only hikes scheduled for June 8 to 12 (Sold out), July 20 to 24, and August 28 to September 4.

Message me here, call us at 906-201-l588, or email us at wiseoldmanofisleroyale@gmail.com

For a full slate of itineraries, check our Guide Services page and 2023 itineraries. There are spaces in both July and September. I’d love to hike with you.

The 4-day and 3 night Itineraries

We meet in a quaint village of Copper Harbor the night before departure and stay overnight in a local hotel. We travel together on the ferry Isle Royale Queen IV and land in Rock Harbor where National Park personnel meet and brief us. Then we start on our adventure, hiking toward Three Mile Campground for the first evening to set up our campsite at the waterfront campground. We enjoy cooking on our camp stoves and view the night sky with potential of viewing the northern constellations, the Milky Way, the Aurora Borealis.

Shore View – Isle Royale

On the second day, we hike over rocks and through the forest along the waterfront, stopping to photograph the wildlife of the island, on our way to Daisy Farm for our second evening. At the dock, we can dip in the frigid water of Lake Superior and take in any presentations occurring in the open air that evening. Daisy Farm allows for potential moose and beaver sightings, as well as viewing other island wildlife, including sand hill cranes, mergansers and other ducks, goshawks, red fox, rabbits and the tiny Isle Royale squirrels that have adapted to their island environment.

Depending on our prowess, we will ascend to the Greenstone Ridge to Mount Franklin lookout for views of Sleeping Giant on the Canadian shore. Our descent takes us back to Three Mile Campground for our third night. On day four, we will return to Rock Harbor for shopping and lunch prior to departure.

Included in the package is a one-night lodging in Copper Harbor, round-trip ferry passage, and guide services. You are responsible for your National Park Usage fee.
